My wife and children have been asking for a holiday. Due to year-end work pressure I have been putting it off. In April 2016, I couldn't escape from their request. We decided we will sit down and discuss after dinner. My son came up with the idea that we should go to Delhi and Agra. I figured I can take a week off from work and decided get into the plan.
I immediately opened my laptop and searched different travel sites. My son got curious and sat behind me to see what I am doing. When we searched Domestic Airlines in Yatra, we found good bargains and booked return ticket to/from New Delhi. We searched holidays in New delhi and decided to go with 6-day 'Golden Triangle by Private Vehicle'. Having made the reservations for the holiday, my wife and children were waiting for the 'D-Day'.
We opted for Indigo Web check-in as the flight was very early in the morning which landed in Delhi at 6AM. We were received at the airport and were driven directly to the Hotel for check-in. We freshened ourselves and started our Delhi tour after breakfast. We went on a one-day sight-seeing tour which included Qutab Minar, India Gate and Rastrapati Bhawan. We took photographs, enjoyed lunch at a local dhaba and returned back to the hotel for dinner.
On Day 2, we checked out of the hotel after breakfast and continued our Delhi sightseeing. We visited Raj Ghat, Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk, Shanti Van and Red fort. In the evening, we set out on our 3 hour drive to Agra. We checked into the hotel and after dinner, walked around to get a glimpse of Taj Mahal.
Day 3 started with a visit to Taj Mahal, a majestic building built with ivory-white marble on the south bank of the Yamuna river. After that we drove to Fatehpur sikri. Built by Akbar in the 18th century. This city is the finest example of Mughal architecture. We visited Diwan-i-Khas, Panch Mahal, Tomb of Salim Chisti and Buland Darwaza. We then continued our 3-hour journey to Jaipur aka Pink City, the capital of Rajasthan and the home of the Jaipur Literature Festival and checked into our hotel.
We woke up on day 4 in Jaipur, and after breakfast set out on the tour of the city. The city boasts of Forts and Palaces. We visited Amber Fort, Jagmandir, Jal Mahal, Temples of Kali, City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Hawa Mahal. We then returned to the hotel, and retired after a massage and dinner.
We started day 5 with a half-day sightseeing of the city and started drive to Delhi after lunch. The drive seemed long and we could feel that we are getting tired towards the end of the vacation. We were looking forward to the good nights sleep in Delhi.
Day 6 was shortened day as we need to be in the Airport by 4PM. We spent the day shopping, buying gifts for few close relations and friends. When we returned home in the night, we were quite tired but we knew by far we had the best Vacation we could have had and being together for a week with no distraction made it a great vacation.
